Atlas Founder/CEO Richard Stumpf announces an exclusive global music publishing deal with indie-rock singer/songwriter, Leah Wellbaum.
Leah Wellbaum gained notoriety as the frontwoman of the indie-rock band Slothrust. The trio of Wellbaum, Kyle Bann, and Will Gorin first created their unique style of jazz- and blues- afflicted indie rock while studying together in college. Their 2012 debut album Feels Your Pain, and 2014 follow-up Of Course You Do, established the band in a category all their own defying contemporary comparison leading up to their next album, Everyone Else, out on October 28th through Dangerbird Records. Sonicbids says “Slothrust’s musicianship sneaks up on you, because the first thing that grabs you is how insanely catchy these songs are. Then you realize that it all comes down to the fact that they play fearlessly and full of tenacity.” Wellbaum’s songwriting bears a strong influence from her time as a college jazz student, which creates a sharp departure from conventional indie rock stylings. The incorporation of these colorful tones expressed through Wellbaum’s guitar, voice, and lyrics give her music a sense of depth that alternately simmers and erupts.
Atlas Founder/CEO Richard Stumpf says, “When I first saw Leah live I was blown away! That SXSW Slothrust performance had me thinking Nirvana on the one hand, and Wynton Marsalis on the other! The performance was mesmerizing. Leah and Slothrust are pushing the envelope musically, and we love that. We’re thrilled Leah has chosen Atlas to be her publishing home.”
Molly Jonke, Director - A&R, concurs, "Leah is truly a unique wordsmith. The incredibly talented musicians of Slothrust paired with Leah’s lyrics & melodies undeniably sets them apart. We love that she continues to push herself as a songwriter and are honored to welcome her to the Atlas roster."
"The moment I met Rich and Molly, I could tell that Atlas was a company that had its heart in the right place,” explains Wellbaum. “They are truly passionate about music and have a positive energy that makes me excited to create new work."
