Atlas Music Publishing is excited to announce a joint venture with the Dan “The Automator” Nakamura. With this JV, Dan will bring young writers to sign co-publishing deals at Atlas. Atlas founder and CEO, Richard Stumpf says, “Dan is a rare talent who has delivered some of the most creative, rhythm infused, left of center music out there. He’s an artist’s artist and we are thrilled to be in partnership with him as he discovers fresh new talent.”
Representing Dan “The Automator” since 2014, Atlas’s deal now extends to represent his entire catalog globally. Dan says, “Over the last 5 years, I have enjoyed working with Rich and Atlas. I’m excited to extend my deal with Atlas and having the backing and opportunity to widen the scope of our working relationship. Atlas has been a true supporter, and I look forward to this new chapter together.”
Dan "The Automator” is known for his work as an experimental hip-hop artist with contributions to the Dr. Octagon project with "Kool" Keith Thornton. In 1999, he hooked up with former De La Soul producer Prince Paul to form the duo, Handsome Boy Modeling School, and released the old-school hip-hop, new-school trip-hop album So...How's Your Girl? Following that break-out hit, he then joined rapper Del tha Funkee Homosapien and DJ Kid Koala on the Deltron 3030 which led to becoming a principal producer on Gorillaz. At the time Gorillaz was a “virtual band,” whose lineup featured Dan as producer, Del providing lyrics and flow (notably on the album’s biggest hit, “Clint Eastwood”), and Kid Koala on turntables. The self-titled album GORILLAZ (2001) was hailed as an alternative rock landmark and has sold over 8 million copies to date.
This year, Dan “The Automator” released Booksmart—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, an original score for the coming of age hit movie, Booksmart which includes eight pieces of music including the standout track “Broke a Couple of Rules.”
