Mushroom Music Publishing has entered into a new agreement to sub-publish fellow independent, Atlas Music Publishing for the territory of Australia and New Zealand.
Under the new partnership, Mushroom will administer works by Van Halen, Counting Crows and John Legend, as well as songwriters including Alex Vargas, Toby Gad and Coyle Girelli.
The move sees Atlas founder and CEO, Richard Stumpf back in business with Mushroom, having previously worked together while he was heading up Creative at Cherry Lane.
Stumpf says, “Reuniting with Ian, Zoe and the Mushroom team is like a return to family. These guys know the work it takes to get things done. I recall a decade ago, when I ran Cherry Lane’s Creative, going to one of those classic 1am SXSW showcases off the beaten path to see a new band. You know, the one you almost skip. Lo and behold, who was standing right next to me - the head of Mushroom Music, Ian James. The band – The Temper Trap! That’s a guy who gets what it takes to be successful. I’m happy to be back home!”
Mushroom Music Managing Director, Ian James adds, “We are thrilled to be once again working with our friend and colleague Rich and his team at Atlas. Personal relationships in the music industry are as important as ever and having a fond history with not only with Rich, but a number of his Atlas staff, has been integral to our paths crossing again. As publishing companies continue to be bought and sold, it’s vital that the remaining independents unite to strengthen our position in what is a very competitive market place.”
Established in 1972, Mushroom Music Publishing is a key part of Michael Gudinski’s Mushroom Group of companies. Mushroom sub-publishes several of the world’s premier international music catalogues as well as domestic songwriters including Vance Joy, Kylie Minogue, Nick Murphy (FKA Chet Faker), Gordi, DMA’s, Amy Shark and D.D Dumbo.
Founded by Richard Stumpf (CEO) in 2013, Atlas Music Publishing is a service-oriented, digital market-minded alternative to big box, high volume music publishing. Atlas was built on the belief that “Bigger is not better. Better is better.” Bringing together a team of veteran music publishing executives with proven track records, the company currently represents songs performed by top stars, boasting a roster of hit-makers that spans multiple genres including Brandi Carlile, Van Halen, Warren Haynes, Brian Howes, and Dan the Automator, as well as emerging artists ELHAE, Major Myjah, Slothrust, Saint PHNX, Alex Vargas, Charlotte, amongst others.
