Brandi Carlile has signed a new publishing deal with Atlas Music Publishing, in a multiyear agreement that will also include the singer's back catalog. The worldwide deal will go into effect beginning in January 2019, and also cover future works, as well as her songwriting collaborations with bandmates and twins Phil and Tim Hanseroth.
As part of the announcement, Atlas founder/CEO Richard Stumpf also announced the creation of a new Nashville office, which will be headed by Tracy Gershon.
“I’d been hoping to work with Brandi, Tim, and Phil since I saw them in NY back in 2006," Stumpf said in a statement. "I’ve remained a huge fan over the years and have seen them whenever possible. It’s an honor to be able to welcome such incredible writers to the Atlas family. Not many write and deliver with such passion and authenticity. Beyond that, they are high quality, genuinely nice folks, that anyone would love working with."
"As songwriters, the twins and I are on a constant search of fresh paths and uncharted territory," Carlile, who previously had a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, said in a statement. "We are completely thrilled with the promise of this brand new journey with Atlas and we are looking ever forward to writing this story together with them."
Atlas, founded by Stumpf in 2013, boasts a catalog that includes songs written for and performed by Drake, Madonna, Demi Lovato, The Band Perry, Al Green and Ed Sheeran. Its roster includes Van Halen, Brian Howes, Dan The Automator and more. Its new Nashville office will be its third, after established locations in New York and Los Angeles.
“Atlas has had an incredible run in Nashville within a joint venture that brought us dozens of number ones, a multi-year writer of the year winner, and over 50 PRO awards," Stumpf said. "Given where we are in our growth, it was time to move beyond a joint venture and plant our own flag in Nashville. I’m happy to announce that Tracy Gershon will be advising us as we build out the Atlas Nashville team and roster. There aren’t many creatives who bring the kind of relationships and experience as Tracy. When I spoke with Tracy about being able to get into business with Brandi, she couldn’t have been more excited.”
"Brandi and I have been looking for a way to work together for awhile, and this new partnership with Atlas will provide some innovative and exciting opportunities," Gershon added. "I’m looking forward to working with Brandi, Tim, Phil, Rich and the entire Atlas team."
